2015 Tet Festival at History Park, San Jose

On February 28, 2015,  the 2015 MVNCI court made our way to the highly anticipated celebration hosted in San Jose, CA — the Tet Festival!  As we stepped onto the grounds of History/Kelley Park, the Tet atmosphere came alive with lunar decorations, individuals dressed in cultural-wear, and music. We first setup our booth where we planned to hand out red envelopes filled with chocolate coins, toy cars, and tiaras to the children that stopped by, as we waited for the opening ceremony to begin.  Cathy and Mandy were asked to be the MC’s for the opening ceremony, and the collaboration of the two could not have made a...

SJSU VSA “Legends” – Kevin Truong’s Ao Dai Fashion Show

On Friday, June 6, 2014, Crystal, Mandy, Cindy, and I participated in SJSU VSA’s “Legends” Culture Show during the Ao Dai Fashion Show segment, showcasing talented designer Kevin Truong’s work.  The Culture Show is annually held at the end of the school year and represents the culmination of what the VSA students have been tirelessly working on throughout the past year.  It is a celebration of Vietnamese culture by our generation and how it can be brought alive through a multitude of creative acts which also include singing, skits, and dance.  All proceeds from this year’s event went to support...

Miss and Mrs Vietnam USA Coronation and Appreciation Gala

On Friday, May 2, 2014, the newly titled MVNCI court made our way to our first public event together at Dynasty Restaurant to celebrate the court of Miss and Mrs Vietnam USA at their coronation and Appreciation Gala.  Personally, I was very excited to attend the Miss and Mrs Vietnam USA Coronation and Appreciation Gala.  It had been three weeks since our last court gathering and I was excited to be reunited with the court and staff.  This event was also very special because the newly crowned Miss Vietnam USA, Kimmy Huynh, was our very own pageant practice director who had worked...

Pageant Day Experience: Cathy – 2nd Princess

According to my past experiences, the final days leading up to pageant felt a lot like waiting in line for a roller coaster ride, or waiting to be called into the surgery room get your wisdom teeth extracted using only local anesthesia.  There have been times in instances like these in which I have been tempted to back out (and believe me, I have escaped from the oral surgeon’s waiting room before; long story, but it explains why I still have 2 wisdom teeth left!).  This time, I knew I was in line for one of those moments in life...
