18th Annual SF International Dragon Boat Festival

Miss Vietnam of Northern California Intercollegiate had the pleasure of being invited to the 18th Annual San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival!  The two-day festival drew a record number of 80,000 attendees according to the San Francisco Examiner, and nearly 120 teams competed in the boat race.  The sport of dragon boating includes an ornate, narrow boat fit for 20 paddlers, a drummer who sits at the head of the boat and sets the pace, and a helmsman.  The courses were 500 meters and 300 meters, and teams championed through the water with the newly-constructed Bay Bridge in the background....

On the evening of April 20th, MVNCI 2013 Court members had the privilege and honor to participate in the Asian American Women’s Alliance Scholarship & Recognition Awards Annual Banquet.  The Asian American Women’s Alliance, or AAWA, was founded in August 1996 and is a volunteer-based, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. On the morning of June 29th,  I was on my way to Fort Funston Nursery and I couldn’t help but admire what a beautiful day it was in the southwestern region of San Francisco.  What was surprising was that I didn’t know this area existed despite the fact that I use to live only less than 10 minutes away! Raising Awareness – Human Trafficking What is FAME? It stands for “Fashion Art Music Exhibition” and is a bi-annual event in San Jose that showcases artists’ work of fashion, art, and music in a one-day exhibition and fashion show. At this year’s event, MVNCI was fortunate to partner with Pacific Links Foundation (PALS) as exhibitors to spread awareness about human trafficking. What is human trafficking? MVNCI 2013 Coronation & Charity Gala

Coronation was a jam-packed evening recognizing the Miss Vietnam of Northern California Intercollegiate 2013 Court.  Not only was the event about officially crowning the new court, but it was also a charity gala;  MVNCI partnered with United Vietnamese Student Associations of Northern California (UVSA) to raise funds for the charity Medical, Educational Missions and Outreach (M.E.M.O.) that assists rural villages and orphanages in Vietnam by providing monetary donations and free health clinics.  The Court members spent weeks preparing for...
