On Friday, May 30, 2014, MVNCI once again attended Jessica Tran’s annual charity event, “A Union of Golden Hearts”! Read about the 2013 Court’s experience here. Jessica hosts the event annually through the Golden Hearts non-profit organization to raise money to support academically motivated, but financially disadvantaged kids in grades K-12 in Southeast Asian countries. The event is a sit-down dinner where guests can enjoy a variety of entertainment, and have the opportunity to win raffles prizes and partake in live auctions — all to raise funds to support Golden Hearts’ mission. The theme this year was “Light a Dream One Child at a Time”. This was yet another rare opportunity in which the entire MVNCI court was able to attend! Beauty Queens Ivy Le and Nina Dao were in attendance, as well. We were invited to help greet guests, sell raffle tickets, present flowers to sponsors onstage, and to model designer Chau Nguyen’s ao dai’s during the fashion show.

The first task of the day was to make a pit-stop at Salon Ming 2 located in East San Jose, where talented Chelsy La and her team graciously sponsored all the models’ hair and make-up! We all received creative up-do’s which was a fun change from our usual curled hair at other pageant events. Then, we arrived at Dynasty Chinese Seafood Restaurant to help set-up and familiarize ourselves with the fitting room and stage. As guests began to trickle in, we stood by ready to greet and take photos with them in front of the pretty event backdrop! In the midst of photo-taking, Crystal briefly left to reprise her title as Miss Talent and performed a song alongside two talented young singers for the guests. Once mostly everyone was situated into their seats, we helped sell raffle tickets for the opportunity to win great prizes. Afterwards, we sat down for a quick meal before getting dressed backstage for the fashion show. Although there were many girls packed in the small fitting room with a lot of ao dai’s at hand, we all managed to get dressed just in time for the show to begin. It was a lot of fun modeling Anh Chau’s gorgeous ao dai’s on stage! We stayed dressed in Anh Chau’s ao dai’s as a few of us presented flowers to sponsors onstage, and to take more pictures with guests afterwards.

Jessica always puts on a successful event and this year was no different. It is inspiring to see her efforts come to fruition as she always has many supporters turn out every year. Congratulations to Jessica and Golden Hearts for a successful night, and thank you for inviting MVNCI to attend! Also, thank you to Anh Chau for taking the time to do ao dai fittings and for loaning his beautiful work for a great cause. We are looking forward to next year’s event!
